Chadar - means blanket and in this case we can say "an ice blanket on Zanskar River" which would be the most exciting trekking route in the world over a frozen river. Thinking of walking on a frozen Himalayan river is perhaps the last thought of a human mind. It would sound like a dream but still it exists; local inhabitants of Zanskar use this alternative route over the frozen surface of Zanskar River to carry back essential supplies from main towns. The conditions in this region are still remote and unyielding - temperatures drop below -30 degrees centigrade at night. We offer you this challenging expedition for 2006 winters, come on.. dare it!

Walking on this river during peak winters is a real test of physical ability and mental endurance - a lifetime experience - The Chaddar Expedition. Travelling along the snow-covered valleys & over the frozen Zanskar River through the stark winter landscape.
This journey of lifetime is a real insight into the rural life style, which may enhance the excitement with an encounter of winter wild life of the region like Ibex and Snow Leopard. Using the same caves, which years back ancient traders have used along the frozen Zanskar River is a time travelling experience, Buddhist monasteries and their importance as well as dominance on the winter life is all a combination of spending sometime at long lost Shangri-La. The local people get much involved in festivals and weaving woollen handicraft products during the winters in this region and we are the rare ones to see Ladakh during this period of the year.

Tour program for CHADAR EXPEDITION on Frozen Zanskar River

Day 1 : Fly Delhi - Leh and rest.
Day 2 : Sightseeing around Leh.
Day 3 : Leh - Chiling by jeep
Day 4 : Chadar Chiling - Zaribago
Day 5 : Chadar Zaribago - Deepyokma
Day 6 : Chadar Deepyokma - Nyrakpulu
Day 7 : Chadar Nyrakpulu - Lingshed
Day 8 : Rest in Lingshed; visit monastery
Day 9 : Chadar/Trek Lingshed - Deepkongma
Day 10 : Chadar Deepkongma - Watsangdo
Day 11 : Chadar Wastangdo - Pishu
Day 12 : Trek Pishu - Karsha
Day 13 : Rest Rest and visit one of the most famous Zanskar monasteries.
Day 14 : Walk Karsha - Zangla.
Day 15 : Snow Trek Zangla to Zanglasumdo, walk in the valley following small stream.
Day 16 : Snow Trek Zanglasumdo to Chupchak, cross Charchar la (4950m)
Day 17 : Snow Trek Chupchak to Wangchuk Chenmo
Day 18 : Snow Trek/Trek Wangchuk Chenmo to Kharnak, walking in the valley
Day 19 : Snow trek Kharnak do to Rabrang, walk in the valley
Day 20 : Snow trek Rabrang to Temkachen, cross Rabrang la (4300m)
Day 21 : Snow trek Themkachen to Markha
Day 22 : Snow trek Markha to Skiu, visit Markha monastery in the morning
Day 23 : Snow trek Skiu to Chiling to Leh
Day 24 : Rest in Leh
Day 25 : Return flight Leh - Delhi and back to home.
